Pipe yard: Photo a day #6

I suspect this pipe yard will feature many times in my daily photos

Weekend shots: Photo a day #4 and #5

I didn't skip out on my daily photos, just didn't spend enough time at a computer to post them.

I was sick yesterday and wasn't thrilled about the idea of standing upright, let alone setting up a photo. The result has pretty much no redeeming qualities in my eyes, and by the time I got this picture my store-brand "Hot Lemon Relief" was lukewarm lemon relief. As lacklustre as the results may be, I didn't skip the day!

Side street: Photo a day #2

I'll also point out today that I'm hosting these in a flickr set.

A photo a day #1

Heavily inspired by my friend Dave's 365pix project and my own desire to spend more time taking pictures as opposed to thinking about taking pictures I've decided to start taking and posting at least one picture every day.  I'm not terribly creative regarding to subject matter (especially when I'm wussing out because of the snow and cold) so this might be a fairly boring series, but it will certainly keep me active and might produce some gems.  To separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak, these posts will get their own blog topic here apart from my usual "Photography" topic.  They also get their own gallerama gallery.

More pictures from Ottawa

I've been going through my Lightroom library, doing some post-processing in my spare time, and have a few more pictures to post from Ottawa.  The first picture was underexposed because I had my camera in hand at night and the flash wasn't to enough illuminate it well at f/8 (I still wanted good depth of field, of course).  Exposure compensation brightened the whole thing up nicely, but I cranked the contrast up and dialed the saturation way down to get the dark feeling back.
Spiral stairs leading down to a path along the Rideau Canal
The next two were pictures were okay as shot, but not anything that I felt compelled to post up.  I decided to do some crop and colour work on them specifically with the idea of submitting them to a dpreview.com challenge for afternoon landscapes with buildings.
The National Gallery of Canada, as shot from behind Parliament if my memory serves me
Across the Ottawa River to Gatineau, QC
I ended up submitting the former, along with a picture I took when I was in Switzerland in 2005 (which is a trip and a set of pictures that will require a dedicated blog post at some point).  Voting on the challenge will be open in a week, I might post a link and beg for 5-star ratings!

A little solace and some peace of mind

Just a few songs that I've listened to lately, presented for your listening pleasure.

A Perfect Circle - Weak and Powerless

The Dead Weather - Die by the Drop

Sweethead - Amazing Vanishing Conquest

The Tea Party - Fire in the Head

Inked again

I got tattoo #5 done yesterday (the outline anyway, it will get filled).  It's a diagram of a lens aperture on my right calf.

Star trail photo: A first attempt

I've been planning on doing something like this for a while and finally braved the cold to give it a shot.  Next time I'll bring additional lights so I can focus the foreground, and it turns out that even in the middle of nowhere I'm going to be fighting ambient light.  Imperfections aside, I think it was a pretty good first attempt.  This was a bit more than 11 minutes exposure at f/8.
